RVC to host lecture “Hey, there are cockroaches in my chocolate ice cream!” Oct 27

Internationally renowned chemist Dr. Joe Schwarcz will present the lecture “Hey, there are cockroaches in my chocolate ice cream” at Rock Valley College on Monday, October 27 at the college’s Physical Education Center.  The lecture is free of charge.

Dr JoeKnown around the world as Dr. Joe, Schwarcz is professor of chemistry at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec and director of McGill’s Office of for Science and Society.  Dr. Joe says he is dedicated to the demystifying of science for the public.

Dr. Joe is known for authoring many books, a weekly column in the Montreal Gazette, and TV and radio shows.  He is also an amateur magician who often describes how “supernatural feats” can be done by ordinary means with a scientific explanation.

His lecture at RVC will be highly visual and entertaining, emphasizing the importance of fostering critical thinking.

Dr. Joe gave a talk at TEDx Montreal in 2012 on the importance of skepticism in science.
