Mass Com students create video for Barbara Olson School of Hope

Posted on Nov 17, 2015

December 1 this year is a national event called “Giving Tuesday.”  Following on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is 24 hours where people are encouraged to help support local organizations’ fundraising efforts.  Rock Valley College has a couple of connections to Giving Tuesday.

Not only will the RVC Foundation be participating (stay tuned for details), but students in RVC’s Mass Communication department helped create a video to promote the efforts of Rockford’s Barbara Olson School of Hope.

Founded in 1948, the Barbara Olson School of Hope began in an effort to educate those who had difficulty learning, and in 1972 the school began to focus on teens and adults with developmental disabilities.

Jerry LaBuy, Chair of the Mass Com department said, “We’ve had the pleasure of working this fall on a few media projects with Carm Herman and some of her program’s participants at the Barbara Olson Center of Hope.

“These have been great training and resume builders for our student workers. They provide “real-world” practice and they can use the finished projects on their transfer applications or professional media portfolios.”
