A unique program that brings bachelor’s degree engineering programs from Northern Illinois University to the campus of Rock Valley College, and provides a seamless transfer between the two schools, will begin in August of 2016.  The program will be housed in a completely renovated Woodward Technology Center at RVC equipped with brand new, state-of-the-art labs and teaching spaces.

Two current RVC students who will graduate with their associates degrees in May are among those already signed up for the program.  Both are excited about the opportunity to earn their bachelor’s in Rockford, and to continue working while they earn their degree.

RVC Professor Chuck Konkol envisions a world where college students would no longer need to strap on a book bag to go to class. All they would need is their mobile devices.

While it might be optimistic to think textbooks will become obsolete anytime soon, Konkol does see it as highly likely for some courses to no longer require a traditional textbook.

Rockford’s Jefferson High School’s robotics team found itself in a dilemma.  The robotics league that they belong to has changed the method used to control the robot.  This new method is cutting-edge, and allows the students to control the robot by developing applications that work with Android cellphones.
