RVC Students Innovate at Freedom Field

While walking around the Rock Valley College campus, have you seen the bench with a solar panel  and USB charging station? How about the fancy electronic gear next to the creek? Ever wonder what that’s for?

Would you like to see a solar-assisted electric go-cart? A smell detector that controls a ventilation fan?

Those are some of the projects that RVC students have completed as part of their coursework in Sustainable Energy Systems, Electronic Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and Environmental Science. The projects were made possible through RVC’s partnership with Freedom Field Renewable Energy, a living laboratory that provides leadership in sustainability through education, consultation, and experimentation.
