Welcome to our first “Get to Know Me” feature for RVC employees! Today we are going to get to know Abbye Garcia.
Name: Abbye Garcia
Title: Multi-Media Specialist
Tell us a little about your job at RVC.
Basically, I help promote all of the awesome things we’re doing here at RVC. You’ll more than likely see me around campus with a camera around my neck or with my phone in the air trying to take a mobile upload for social media. Social media, website management, photography, and other means of communication sum up my job!
What inspires you?
My son! I have a three year old son, Easton. He’s pretty awesome. Everything I do is for that kid.
What do you like to do for fun?
Hang with my family, go to concerts, travel (when possible), and take pictures, of course!
What was your very first job?
Detasseling! Yes, I removed corn tassels for money. Small town living. 😉
Who are your role models?
My parents. Now that I am a parent I can relate to everything they’ve done for me.
Where is your favorite place to go at RVC?
I love the Student Center. Awesome events usually happen in there and students are always around. Good energy!
What is your favorite quote or words to live by?
“Life is like photography. You develop from the negatives.” It was my senior quote in the yearbook!
What is the best advice you have ever received?
“It’s okay to say no.” I started TRYING to do that more and found out that free time is an important and okay thing to have!
What’s the last good book you’ve read?
When Nobody Was Watching by Carli Lloyd. I’m a soccer player/fan.
What’s the last good movie you have seen?
Think what you want, but I loved The Revenant.
What is your favorite TV show to binge watch?
Who is your favorite musician, group or band?
Blue October and Dave Matthews Band. OBSESSED.
What is your favorite thing to eat?
I love all the foods.
Where do you like to go or what do you like to do when you have a long weekend?
Spend as much time as possible with family!
What might surprise people to learn about you?
I have a freelance photography business. I do a lot of senior portraits, family sessions, and weddings!
Also…I was on House Hunters in 2015! My reality TV appearance dream finally came true.
What has been your biggest personal challenge?
Trying to work full-time at RVC, juggle a photography business, and be a mom. Like I said earlier, I am learning to say no to everyday things in order to make more time for things that are important.
What’s the next big thing coming up in your life that you are looking forward to?
Nothing too crazy! A few concerts scheduled for 2017 and much needed free time on the weekends.
