Get to Know Me: Chad Herren

Welcome to our “Get to Know Me” feature for RVC employees! Today we are going to get to know Chad Herren.

Title: Sports Coordinator/Head Baseball Coach


Department: Athletics


Tell us a little about your job at RVC.

I am in charge of helping with fundraising and community events. Also, I run the baseball program here at Rock Valley College. We do community service, study halls, and play a fall and spring season.

What inspires you?

The student-athletes I get to work with each and every day. Coming to work each day, watching these great young adults succeed.

I am also inspired by my two daughters, Boey and Kai.


What do you like to do for fun?

I enjoy coaching and watching baseball, watching my kids play sports, golfing, and traveling.


What was your very first job?

My first job was bagging groceries at Hy-Vee in Lincoln, Nebraska.


Who are your role models?

My mother and father. My mother has always had a way of making things right and staying calm and teaching me many things. My father, for the countless hours in the backyard playing toss and hoops. Both pushed me academically and challenged me each day to be a strong individual.


Where is your favorite place to go at RVC?

My favorite place to is the baseball field, not to mention classroom checks. RVC is a great place to come to work every day.


What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

Don’t be mediocre.


What is the best advice you have ever received?

Follow your dreams, do what makes you happy.


What’s the last good book you’ve read?

I am not sure, I typically start a book and don’t get to the end. But I like to read the daily newspaper.



What is your favorite TV show to binge watch?

The Big Bang Theory


Who is your favorite musician, group or band?

James Bay


What is your favorite thing to eat?

Pizza or a grilled steak


Where do you like to go or what do you like to do when you have a long weekend?

I enjoy going to different MLB ballparks.


What might surprise people to learn about you?

I grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and just moved here with my family from Topeka, Kansas.

There is no limit to anything… find what you want and go do it.


What has been your biggest personal challenge?

I enjoy challenges, but I don’t know if I have a “biggest” personal challenge.


What’s the next big thing coming up in your life that you are looking forward to?

I am always waiting to see what my kids will do next. We just purchased a house here in Rockford, so continuing to get that into place.
