Welcome to our “Get to Know Me” feature for RVC employees! Today we are going to get to know Stephanie Nissen.
Title: Circulation Services Coordinator
Department: ERC (Library)
Tell us a little about your job at RVC.
I run the circulation department in the library.
What scares you?
Bears, sharks, and jellyfish.
What do you like to do for fun?
Antique shopping, going to concerts, Sunday drives, reading, watching horror movies, reality TV, and cooking.
What was your very first job?
Nothing glamorous, unfortunately. I was a bagger at a grocery store.
Who are your role models?
My mom is my number one role model. She worked full time while getting her bachelor’s degree when my sister and I were really young, and somehow managed to keep her sanity. Also, my boyfriend, John. He’s a phenomenal musician and doesn’t let anything hold him back from pursuing his dreams.
What is your favorite quote or words to live by?
“For small creatures such as we the vastness is bearable only through
love.” -Carl Sagan
What is the best advice you have ever received?
My mom always told me to be selfish and enjoy my twenties instead of focusing on settling down. It’s given me the courage to build my career and figure out who I really am.
What’s the last good book you’ve read?
Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt
What’s the last good movie you have seen?
Get Out. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend. It’s certainly a film of our time.
What is your favorite TV show to binge watch?
Vanderpump Rules. I know it’s embarrassing, but I’m obsessed! I also
binged all of Game of Thrones in about a month last fall.
What was the first concert you ever attended and what is the most recent concert you have attended?
I don’t remember my first concert well, but I saw The Breeders in Milwaukee a few weeks ago!
Who is your celebrity crush?
Where is your favorite place to eat?
I’m really into Dog Haus right now. Their burgers are everything I’ve ever wanted and never knew I needed! Hawaiian rolls as buns?! Count me
Where do you like to go or what do you like to do when you have a long weekend?
John and I like take day trips. We will drive aimlessly and hope that we stumble upon someplace fun. One of our favorite destinations is Mount Carroll. Cool antique shops, an abandoned college campus, and The Raven’s Grin Inn!
What might surprise people to learn about you?
Though I’m sure this wouldn’t come as a surprise after reading the above answers, I’m a really big horror buff. You name it, I’ve probably seen or read it. It’s my favorite genre.
