In an effort to address the important need for work-based learning, Rock Valley College’s internship coordinator, Brianna Elias, is working with area manufacturers and other STEM-related companies in the Rockford, Illinois area. Connecting RVC students with the experiential learning opportunities through program-related internships, the internship coordinator mentors and guides student interns as they learn how to navigate the world-of-work to become contributing members of companies.
“Having a person dedicated to working with CTE students and focusing on their placement into internships has been a valuable service to our students,” said Dr. Will Ashford, Dean of Student Success.
Students earned anywhere from $12 to $18 per hour in their work-based learning experiences. The coordinator also advises CTE students in course selection, career planning, resume creation and mock interviewing. Last year, an Interview Tips & Techniques workshop was delivered to our Aviation Maintenance Technology program graduates to propel them into their job search. We continue to developing additional career skills training for other targeted CTE program graduates, and strengthen the process by developing a system to collect, analyze and demonstrate learning objectives that students achieve throughout their internships. RVC is very excited about the essential services provided to our students and community by our internship coordinator.
